Quit Smoking For
Good
Many people who are smokers would love to quit and most have
tried one method after another but without success. The
truth is that to quit smoking for good is hard work
but it is possible.
Okay, so what is the most successful and safest means to
stop smoking for the last time? It seems that smokers are
always getting some kind of advice from well-wishing family
members, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and even people they
have never before met who have quit smoking for good. For
some people, the answer was to throw the pack of cigarettes
away and just quit cold turkey. While this works, it is
also hard and for some heavy smokers, ineffective.
Another option that many people trying to quit smoking for
good has found works is with nicotine patches. These
patches contain nicotine that when placed on the body, release
small amounts into the bloodstream, over a controlled amount of
time. The benefit is that the person begins to have fewer
cravings and the unpleasant withdrawal symptoms are often
easier to handle.
The same is true with nicotine gum in that when placed in
the mouth, it releases small amounts of nicotine. The
problem is that some people want to chew the gum instinctively
but this is dangerous in that too much nicotine would be sent
to the bloodstream. Instead, nicotine gum is simply
placed in the mouth for about 20 to 30 minutes, allowing the
nicotine to slowly release.
People that smoke have to understand that breaking a habit
such as this is challenging and for success, he or she has to
first identify why cigarettes are smoked in the first
place. For example, sitting in front of a computer late
at night playing games or working provides the perfect
opportunity to smoke. In this case, the individual should
consider moving the computer to a less comfortable environment,
which would discourage smoking. While hard, the first
step to quit smoking for good is for the person to look at the
circumstances in which he or she smokes most, followed by
making appropriate changes. For people that frequent
restaurants or bars where smoking is permitted, love sitting
around the table with friends while smoking, the key is to
avoid those establishments while trying to kick the habit.
Even exercise is a great way to stop smoking. It is a
known fact that a minimum of 30 minutes exercise daily
increases blood flow and oxygen to the body, which benefits by
flushing harmful toxins such as nicotine from the body.
The great news is that when a person finally quits smoking for
good, the difference in the way he or she feels physically and
mentally is noticeable.
For someone to quit smoking permanently, a number of safe
and effective options are available. While the person
would need to show will power as well, once the decision has
been made to quit and alternative measures are taken, the
results would be incredible.
